Fiber Optic Splicing And Glass Processing Services

Vero offers Specialty Splicing Services, specifically designed to meet your fusion splicing and glass processing needs. Our expertise encompasses everything from proof-of-concept to low-volume production, with custom optical assemblies built to your precise specifications.

Our Specialty Splicing Services™ cover a broad range, including standard SM and PM fibers, as well as complex spliced fiber optic assemblies. These services incorporate the fabrication of fused fiber bundles, optical pump and signal combiners, mode field adapters, end cap splicing, ball lenses, tapered axicon lenses, fiber attenuators, and reduced-clad fusion splicing. Leveraging proprietary and patented technologies, we are capable of processing optical fiber cladding diameters from 50µm to over 2000µm.

Numerous companies have turned to Vero’s Specialty Splicing Services in their initial development stages, benefiting from our extensive experience and expertise in fiber optic preparation, fusion splicing, glass processing, and testing equipment. These capabilities are integral to the fabrication of clients’ optical assemblies.

We support the development of optical components during Alpha/Beta phases and aid in the production of initial deliverables. As an equipment manufacturer and distributor, Vero simplifies the transition to the manufacturing phase for our clients by providing necessary equipment, training, and comprehensive knowledge transfer. This approach ensures a faster time-to-market for your product and a smooth transition with equipment that is fully optimized for your specific products.

Whether for an R&D facility or pre-production R&D, Vero is equipped to fulfill your requirements. Contact us for a detailed overview of our services and to find out how we can assist you.

What We Do For Our Clients
Many clients requiring specialty splicing services approach us with design concepts that necessitate low-volume manufacturing, sometimes in single-digit production volumes. Due to the early stages of these projects, the costs of acquiring splicing or glass processing equipment can often be prohibitive.

In the initial phases of optical component development, Vero’s services offer unparalleled flexibility. Once your component build is completed, you can leverage our knowledge and resources for a seamless transition to in-house production. We provide the same equipment used in building your components for purchase, accompanied by comprehensive training, support, and installation in your manufacturing floor or laboratory.

Vero’s Range of Capabilities and Applications
Our splicing and glass processing service capabilities include both standard industry techniques and unique, custom applications, such as:

  • Cleaving various optical fibers—large diameter, reduced-cladding, photonic crystal, holey, shaped, internally structured, or round—with both flat and angled techniques.
  • Stripping diverse coatings, including acrylate, ETFE, harsh environment: polyimide, carbon, and certain metallic coatings.
  • Multiple methods for fiber stripping: hot air burst, arc plasma, and thermal mechanical techniques for both end and mid-span stripping.
  • Fiber cleaning using superheated air, arc plasma, or ultrasonic chemical processes.
  • Fusion services for fiber end caps, beam expanders, collimators, GRIN lenses, and prisms.
  • Techniques like fused capillary over-tube or collapse.
  • Combining or bundling multiple fibers for high-power fiber laser applications, in both capillary and non-capillary formats.
  • Crafting a range of fiber tapers, from short 2mm to longer 60mm lengths.
  • Precise fiber lensing, ensuring micron precision in lens geometry with rapid and consistent results, including ball lenses and tapered axicon lenses.
  • Specialized splicing for optical fibers from large diameter to micro-diameter, including types like LMA, PCF, double-clad, silicon carbide, ZBLAN, borosilicate, chalcogenide, and other soft glass variants.
  • Creation of optical fiber attenuators.
  • Various tensile strength/proof testing methods, including linear, bend, and mandrel styles.
  • Fiber protection services, which cover fiber acrylate recoating and a range of protection heat shrink sleeves, standard, custom, or micro
